With the IT world constantly evolving, it is essential to keep up with the latest innovations to ensure enterprise security and business continuity. That’s why we bring to your attention a major change in Microsoft’s operating system landscape: the end of support for Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2, scheduled to begin on October 10, 2023.

What does this mean for your company and what options are available?

End of support: what does it entail

As of October 10, 2023, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates, bug fixes, technical support, or online technical content updates for Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2. This means that if your business environment still uses one of these operating systems, you are at risk of exposure to potential security threats.

What options for coping with the transition:

Migration to datacenter or cloud: an ideal solution for many companies may be to migrate applications and data to our datacenter or to Azure. This option offers not only extended security, but also allows you to leverage the power of the datacenter or cloud to improve business efficiency. For those taking advantage of the datacenter option, SPLA licenses will guarantee upgrades to later versions without additional licensing fees.

Staying on Local with upgrades to Windows Server 2022 or ESU: For those who prefer to keep servers on local, you can upgrade to Windows Server 2022 or purchase Extended Security Updates (ESU) for Windows Server 2012, contact us for information on this. These provide three years of security updates and can be renewed annually until October 13, 2026.

For those with higher security needs, we recommend Azure Arc: For companies that want to maximize security and governance, Azure Arc allows you to automatically deploy various standard security updates and ESU by making Azure security tools available on your environment.

The end of support for Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2 is a major turning point for enterprises. It is critical to adopt a timely transition plan to ensure security and continuity of operations. With Azure’s upgrade, migration, and support options, you can meet this challenge with confidence and keep your business safe.
