Veeam Availability Suite: what changes with version 10?

Veaam recently released version 10 of its well-known Availability Suite. This is a long-awaited update for users and, as the leading backup solutions company itself says, it is the most important version released in Veeam’s history.

«The innovations we’ve introduced take data protection to the next level, resulting in the simplest, most flexible and reliable solution for hybrid Cloud environments,” said Danny Allan, Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President of Product Strategy at Veeam.

But what are the main new features of Veeam Availability Suite v10
Let’s look at the most important ones:

 

NAS backups

NAS support is one of the most interesting features introduced by Veeam Availability Suite v10. In fact, the new release allows you to use on-premise storage for archiving structured data, which can be easily moved to and from the cloud. This feature also supports version rollback, so data can be quickly recovered in the event of disasters, such as those caused by increasingly frequent ransomware attacks.

 

Immutable Object Storage

Also in an effort to ensure a quick and painless response to this type of attack, Veeam has introduced the ability to make immutable backups to the Cloud, on all major platforms, including Microsoft Azure.
These backups can then be quickly copied to other destinations, including an on-premise NAS, to provide 3-2-1 redundancy, which involves three copies of the data, two on different devices and one off-site.

 

Instant and simultaneous recovery of virtual machines

Backing up and restoring virtual machines has always been Veeam’s great strength. Veeam Availability Suite v10 offers the ability to instantly recover virtual machines, even simultaneously, supporting VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V VMs, among others.

Most importantly, you can backup and restore to different Cloud destinations (including Azure), automating the conversion processes. In this sense, in addition to allowing a Cloud recovery in case of catastrophic events, Veeam Availability Suite v10 is a great solution to speed up the migration processes from one environment to another.
