Today in Melano took place the press conference to announce the opening of the new node of the Internet Exchange SwissIX located at the headquarters of Moresi.com – a company that has been active for years in Ticino in providing companies with strategic consulting, planning and management services in the IT field.

The node – the ninth in Swiss territory of the SwissIX association, the largest Internet Exchange Point in Switzerland – is the first ever in Ticinoand represents a starting point for the entire Canton, to improve its Internet network in terms of efficiency and security.

An Internet Exchange Point or IXP is in fact a shared platform through which different operators, be they Internet Service Providers (ISPs), telecommunications carriers (carriers), online content providers, and other types of institutions and companies in the area, can interconnect and agree to exchange Internet traffic in a free way. This optimizes exchanges, increasing the efficiency and speed of broadband connections, while also lowering access costs, to provide users with better service.

“We are proud to host in our infrastructure the first IXP in Ticino – said Nicola Moresi, CEO of Moresi.com – From our point of view, this is the continuation of a commitment that, as a company, we have with our territory. This Internet Exchange Point will facilitate the redundancy and neutrality of the internet, with great benefits for everyone, also in terms of security: local traffic, in fact, will be able to remain within the national and cantonal boundaries”.

Once the Internet Exchange Point has been activated, the next steps will be to connect it with other data centers and involve local entities and organizations so that it can become a fruitful collaboration platform: a starting point for the technological development of the entire Canton of Ticino.

In his speech Stefano Rizzi, Director of the Economic Division of the Department of Finance and Economy (DFE), stressed that the first node of an Internet Exchange in Ticino is an important step forward for a Canton that focuses on innovation and technology as key concepts of its economic development strategy.

«Once again our Canton is enriched with an added value – concludes Luca Albertoni, Director of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Canton of TicinoThe Chamber of Commerce of the Canton of Ticino is particularly keen to highlight this private initiative that further enhances technological development in our territory. The stability and interconnection of networks is an essential element in ensuring the competitiveness of our companies in the national and international context».
